Frequently Asked Questions
- Does CPR always work?
- No. Unlike CPR on television, real world CPR has no guarantees that the victim will be around for the next episode. The good news... survival rates have steadily increased over the years.
- Why do your classes take less time than others?
- Our instructors are fire/medical professionals with years of real world experience. We know what matters in a real emergency. We cut through all of the "fluff" that other programs have and get right to the solution. We show the student how to manage the emergency for the few minutes it takes for the responders to arrive.
- Is there an age limit for participation?
- No. We recommend the parent be the judge as to a child's capability to understand the training. We have lots of babysitters in our classes.
- How do I pay for the training?
- No deposits are required. Payment is required at the time you arrive for the class. Personal checks with a valid ID are welcome. We also accept "In God we trust" US funds as well as money orders. Currently we don't accept credit cards. A number of companies have made prior arrangements to be billed for their employees after they have taken a class. Check with your employer to see if they are a client.
- I don't need First Aid. Can I take just the CPR part of the combined course?
- Yes, you can. CPR is the first part. The fee is $20 per person. Allow about 2 hours.
- What if I need First Aid only?
- First aid is offered at the end of any combined course listed on our training calendar. The fee is $10 per person. When you register for the class, please indicate in the comments section you only require first aid training.
- Do you offer nationally recognized cards?
- Yes, our classes are Basic Life Support (BLS) courses long with AED and first aid training. Our nationally recognized card is American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) and the ASHI program content is based on the AHA 2005 BLS guidelines. This card is one of the four nationally recognized programs such as American Heart Assocation, American Red Cross and National Safety Council. Our water safety cards are from Starfish Aquatics.
- How long will the cards be valid?
- The CPR and first aid cards issued at the completion of a class are valid for two years from the issue date. The card issued in the Shaken Baby Syndrome/SIDS/early childhood program is valid for one year. Texas requires this course every year for persons caring for children less than 24 months of age.
- Can I get replacement cards for the ones I lost?
- Yes. Click on our "Lost Cards" web page for details.
- Can I get a Healthcare Provider Card in your class?
- Yes. A HCP card can be obtained in any of our programs. The fee for CPR only is $20 per person.
- I can't find the actual address of a class on the web site. Is it posted?
- No. We do not list the physical address on our class listings page. The address will be provided with the confirmation email that you will receive after you have registered for a class. If you need the address to help choose which class you'd like, just give us a call.
- Can I bring my child to class if I don't have a babysitter?
- No. Even though a number of our classes are held at child care centers, because of liability issues, insurance at these facilities won't allow children that are not registered at that center to be present.
